Jesus Is Lord Founder Brother Eddie Villanueva and President Rodrigo Duterte met in Malacanang, several days after the latter slammed some accounts on the Bible and mocked God during some of his speeches.
During their dinner meeting at the Malago Clubhouse in Malacanang on July 10, 2018, President Duterte explained his controversial remarks to Villanueva, saying that his only criticizing the God of his critics and not the God of everybody.
“If you review the tape, I said that my God is good, has common sense and does not create trouble for my country,” Duterte told Villanueva.
Duterte also apologized to God if the people misunderstood him and generalized his controversial statement.
The President also pointed out during the meeting that there’s a separation between the Church and State.
“You can criticize us anything at all, from the garbage collectors to the Generals and even to the Vice President and Senators, but never use the name of God as a front to attack the government, because that is not the proper way to do it,” Duterte said.
Villanueva also advised President Duterte to apologize directly to God which the latter agreed.
Duterte also explained that the religious people who are busy in criticizing him instead of doing good deeds to other people are the one who made their own concept of their “God”.
“If you feel that somebody is doing it wrong and invoking the name (of God), hey guy you just talking about the wrong God or that is it not God that is my God,” Duterte said.
Finally, President Rodrigo Duterte said that he would apologize to God, but not to his critics who used God to criticize his policies in the government.
“I only apologize to God, nobody else,”
He also believes that his God would forgive him for what he said.
“He (God) would really happy to listen to my apology, why? because my God is all forgiving, why? because he does not remember past hurts, why? because God created me to be good and not to be bad,” Duterte said at the end of his speech.
Brother Eddie Villanueva is one of the religious leaders who slammed President Rodrigo Duterte for his controversial remarks and he demanded that the latter should apologize directly to God.
