Asia’s Limitless Star Julie Anne Jose raised the eyebrows of the Catholic faithful on October 6, 2024, when she performed for a benefit concert at Nuestra Señora Del Pilar Shrine in Mamburao, Occidental Mindoro.
In a Facebook post, netizen ‘Matabang Tindero’ shared a clip of Julie Anne wearing a glittery sleeveless and backless gown while dancing and singing the popular ABBA single, Dancing Queen.
Netizens noticed that Julie Anne was performing in front of the altar, which is one of the most sacred places of the church.
They questioned why the Parish allowed the artist to wear a revealing outfit and perform a song that could not be considered solemn.
According to the Code of Canon Law, the Church must only used for sacred events, such as weddings.
In some cases, parishes allowed performances inside the Church as long as they didn’t contrast with its holiness.
Aside from Julie Anne, Sparkle Artist Jessica Villarubin also performed during the event.
As of writing, the Parish and Julie Anne have yet to give any response to the criticism they received.
