Some netizens criticized Vice Ganda after it was announced that his partner, Ion Perez, had decided to run as a councilor in Tarlac.
On October 1, 2024, Ion filed for candidacy in his hometown, which confirmed the long-time rumors that he was planning to enter politics.
However, some netizens disliked Ion’s decision and even called out Vice for supporting his partner.
In some posts on social media, they criticized Vice and even called him a ‘hypocrite’ for criticizing unqualified candidates but supporting the decision of his partner.
“I can’t help but express my deep frustration with Ion’s candidacy. It’s not about his ability to speak English; it’s the apparent lack of depth or substance. I struggle to understand why Vice, someone so influential, has decided to back him. Frankly, it’s disheartening to see someone with such limited qualifications step into such a crucial role. This feels like a wasted opportunity for real leadership, and it’s incredibly disappointing,” netizen Phythia31 said.
Some even posted Vice’s statement before about his explanation of why he refused to run for elections.
“May nag-offer sa akin mataas na position. Naloka ako! Hindi ako magaling dun. Feeling ko pwede akong manalo kasi marami akong followers, maraming fans, maraming boboto sa akin. Pero hindi ako magaling dun so bakit ako pupunta roon? Ipapahamak ko ang Pilipinas?” said Vice.
