The topic of teenage pregnancy has currently been discussed in the senate because of its rising cases.
The main causes of teenage pregnancy in the Philippines include poverty and limited access to education and reproductive health services.
Sen. Raffy Tulfo is one of the senators who led the discussion on the said topic.
The said topic has also been featured on the GMA morning show Unang Hirit on February 8.
According to the report, one of the main causes of teenage pregnancy was early exposure of teenagers to alcoholic drinks.
The government has been urged to add regulations when it comes to alcoholic drinks to prevent teenagers to acquire them.
Another host of the show, Arnold Clavio gave his side comment on the issue, saying that the government should strictly implement the regulations for selling alcoholic drinks to lessen the cases of teenage pregnancy.
“Kumpirmado ba na pag may alak may balak?” Clavio asked.
Susan Enriquez, one of the co-hosts of Clavio explained that alcohol influence may also contribute to teenage pregnancy because it impairs the judgment of its users resulting in an increased risk of unintended pregnancy.
Clavio then gave another situation, saying that some people intended to intoxicate their drinking companions because they were planning to do something bad.
“Yung iba naman ang sitwasyon nilalasing talaga nila yung biktima nila kasi gusto nila,” the journalist said.
“Baka naman may inilalagay doon sa alak kaya nawawala [sa sarili]” Enriquez responded.
Fortunately, teenage pregnancy in the Philippines declined from 13 percent in 2017 to 6.7 percent in 2022.
