Claudine Barretto shared an untold story about her breakup with Rico Yan 22 years after the matinee idol’s untimely passing.
In an interview with Ogie Diaz, Claudine couldn’t stop being emotional while narrating her last moments with Rico. She revealed that she had already ended her relationship with the actor while filming their last project, “Got 2 Believe,” in 2002.
According to Claudine, she discovered something about Rico, which made her decide to call it quits.
She also reiterated that Rico never laid a hand on her.
“Pareho kaming nagkamali. Nagkakasagutan pero sobrang gentleman yan. Never umabot na mananakit siya,” she said.
Claudine also insisted that Raymart only courted her after Rico’s passing, denying the urban legends that Rico discovered that the actress was already in another relationship when he was still alive.
“Never ko niloko si Rico. Ang question ko nga kung ako ba yung namatay, ganun rin ba yung gagawin ng publiko kay Rico? Yun rin ba pagdadaanan niya? Kasi ayokong pagdaanan niya yung pinagdaanan ko. Ipipilit din ba na totoo yung mga tsismis sa kanya? During that time na kinu-crucify ako ng mga tao na sinasabi nila kasalanan ko, ang hindi nila alam sinisisi ko rin sarili ko,” she stated.
“Hindi ko sinagot si Raymart agad. Hindi ako ready. It took one year pa. Mabuti namang tao si Raymart kahit papano,” she added.
She also revealed that Rico left a letter before he passed away to defend her from possible criticisms that she might have received from the public if her breakup with the actor had been disclosed at that time.
“Hanggang sa huling hininga ni Rico, alam kong ako yung minahal niya,” she stated.
It can be recalled that Rico passed away in 2002, which sparked several urban legends about the possible cause of his sudden end.
