Ricci Rivero expressed regret for missing an opportunity to represent the country in the upcoming FIBA World Cup 2023.
In an interview with Radyo5, Ricci said that he really wanted to represent the country by being part of the Gilas Pilipinas.
“Ako po opo kasi syempre, ‘yun ‘yung pinaka-target ko. Pinaka-goal ng isang athlete to represent their country,” said Ricci.
“That basically means they’re one of the best of the bests. May tiwala sa’yo yung coaches, yung system na ito lalaban ito para sa bansa.” he added.
It can be recalled that Ricci was one of the best players in the country, but his injury in 2022 forced him to take a rest from playing basketball.
Some even said that Ricci’s injury that year badly affected his gameplay.
Despite the missed opportunity, Ricci expressed his full support for the current lineup of Gilas.
“Siguro God’s plan na ito ‘yung nangyari. Alam ko naman lahat ng nakapaglaro and maglalaro sa [FIBA] World Cup, deserving naman. I’m happy for everybody.” he said.
it can be recalled that Ricci became controversial in the past weeks after his separation from Andrea Brillantes.
Some believed that his breakup with Andrea motivated Ricci to return to basketball.
