A man who claimed to be an illegitimate son of Richard Yap challenged the actor to a DNA test so the public would know the truth.
It can be recalled that Joshua Jensen, who’s a resident of Cavite, already asked Yap to recognize him several times and even said that he was ready to prove his claims via a DNA test.
However, Yap refused the proposal from Jensen, saying that he would let the lawyers work on the case.
“I think it is for our lawyers to talk about that. If I accept (the challenge), that means that we are guilty or we think that there is a chance, but there is really none. Why should I agree to what they want?” Yap said.
He even said that Jensen’s appearance might be related to his candidacy for the north district congressional post of Cebu City.
In 2022, Jensen personally went to Cebu City to file a case against Yap, saying that he had no choice because the actor didn’t want to talk to him.
“Alam naman natin ‘yung totoo, hindi mo lang matanggap sa sarili mo. Hinahamon kita magpa- DNA test, ayaw mo. Bakit? Takot ka malaman nilang lahat? Sana naman magpakalalaki ka kahit minsan lang. Alam mong matagal ka na naming hinahanap para makausap nang maayos, kaso wala, eh, puro ka iwas.” Jensen told the actor.
“Hinintay mo pang dumating sa puntong ‘to. Ngayong dumating na, siguro, oras na rin para magkaharap-harap tayo, para malaman na rin nila kung ano ba talaga ‘yung totoo. ‘Wag kang mag-alala, si Lord na bahala sa lahat,”he added.
In an interview with Aster Amoyo, Jensen said that he was informed about his relationship with Yap when he was 10 years old.
He believed that only a DNA test would prove his claims because Yap was not really willing to recognize him.
According to Jensen, he tried to see Yap several times personally, but the actor didn’t want to meet him.
Jensen also denied that he only wanted to have a share of the wealth of the actor.
“Wala naman po akong masamang intensyon, nabuhay po akong mag-isa so kung pera lang [ang habol ko] mali po yung sinasabi nila. Kung sustentuhan niya ako, karapatan ko po yun, deserve ko po yun na sustentuhan niya,” he said.
“Magpa-DNA tayo, humarap ka, harapin mo kami, patunayan mo talaga na isa kang tunay na lalake,” he added.
