Pia Wurtzbach defends LGBT rights after Duterte’s pardon to Pemberton: “Make sure we register to vote for the next elections!”

Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach urged the netizens to register as a voter after President Rodrigo Duterte granted an absolute pardon to US Marine Lance Corporal Joseph Scott Pemberton.

Pemberton was convicted for slaying Filipina transgender Jennifer Laude in 2014.

Wurtzbachk who’s a known LGBT defender made a series of tweets after Duterte made the said controversial decision.

In her tweets, she encouraged Twitter users to register for the 2022 elections.

“Tuwing nagbabasa ako ng balita, palagi nalang palala ng palala yung mga nababasa ko. Ngayon ito naman? Hay… Eto nalang, let’s all make sure we register to vote for the next elections. Each one of us,” said Wurtzbach.

Twitter is known as the stronghold of the opposition supporters.

According to her, it’s not enough that they’re only being heard on social media.

“I will continue reminding everyone to register to vote. Dahil sigurado, maraming magpapabukas nito until the last minute. No more excuses (even for me) lahat tayo dapat registered na. Hindi enough na sa social media lang tayo naririnig,” she said.

“Okay. Signing off for tonight. Baka macarried away pa ko sa mga susunod kong sasabihin.. pero yun na. I know I dont use twitter much and I probably dont have a lot of active followers here anymore. But pls for those who can read this. Please mag register tayo ha,” she also said.

The beauty queen is currently enjoying her vacation in another country amid the current situation of the Philippines.

Yesterday, President Duterte defended his decision to grant pardon to Pemberton, saying that the Philippines didn’t fairly treat the US soldier.

“It is not the fault of Pemberton na hindi na na-compute because we should allow him, the good character presumption kasi wala namang nagreport na Marines na nagsabi na nagwawala siya,” Duterte said.

“So sabi ko kay Justice Secretary, Medialdea, pinatawag ko sila kanina, sabi ko it’s my decision to pardon. Correct me if I’m wrong but ito ang tingin ko sa kaso. We have not treated Pemberton fairly,” he added.

Meanwhile, the camp of Jennifer Laude confirmed that Pemberton already paid P4.5-M for the civil damages.
