“I am not ashamed” Sinulog Festival Queen 2020 helps her family by selling ‘siakoy’ in her neighboorhood:

A teenage beauty queen captured the attention of the netizens after she was spotted selling “pilipit” or twisted bread to her neighborhood in Borongan City, Eastern Samar.

Monika Afable was crowned as the Sinulog Festival Queen in 2020 and now being called as ‘humble queen’ on social media because of being not ashamed to peddle goods.

Her grandmother, Sisa Balan couldn’t hide her happiness to see her granddaughter working despite being crowned as a beauty queen.

In an interview, she decided to sell pilipit because she wanted to earn money for herself and her family amid the pandemic.

“We started selling again yesterday. I help my grandmother in preparing and I also sell it. Half kami nang kikitan-in kasi gusto ko mag save kasi kulang pa yung pera ko pang bili ng puppy hehe,” she said.

According to her, she’s not ashamed of what she’s doing.

“No, I am not ashamed. My grandmother always told me that you should not be ashamed of anything as long as you will not harm anyone. I also love helping my family, help my grandma, because by this I can help her and I love to see her smile,” she said.

Thousands of netizens praised Afable for her humility.

Hundreds of Filipinos who lost their jobs due to pandemic also made some way to earn money like rapper Gloc 9 who also gone viral after he turned to online selling.

A flight attendant who also couldn’t work because of the pandemic decided to sell ‘pares’ on the street to earn money.
