A Cebu-based priest told the parishioners of Carmelite Monastery to know the importance of respecting Human Rights.
On the 6th day of the Simbang Gabi in the said church, Father Ramon Echica asked his audience why Filipinos are thinking that taking someone’s life is already accepted in the Philippines.
He even said that the people who brought Christianity in the Philippines but no longer practicing the said religion is ironically the one trying criticizing our country, “telling us that it is not okay”.
He then told the Catholics to respect human rights like how they respect their religion.
“God, who created us in his image, is assumed in our human nature,” Echica who’s also the dean of the Seminario Mayor de San Carlos’ theology department said according to an article of Rappler.
“If you don’t believe in human rights, you might as well not celebrate Christmas,” he added.
This is not the first time that a Catholic priest criticized what’s happening in the country.
It’s already known that President Rodrigo Duterte has been criticized for allegedly committing EJKs and one of his vocal critics are the priests of the Roman Catholic Church.
The President even said that the Catholic Church is going to disappear in 25 years because of the controversies being faced by the said religion.
“Itong Katoliko na ito, will disappear. In almost 25 years wala na ‘yan. Hindi na makalimutan ng tao ‘yan,” Duterte said.
However, despite his criticisms to the largest Church in the Philippines, the President still remains popular as he gained 87 percent trust rating in the latest Pulse Asia.
