BuCor Chief Bantag removes 300 guards of Bilibid

Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) Chief Gerald Bantag decided to remove 300 New Bilibid guards as part of their fight against irregularities happening inside the national penitentiary.

Most of the guards relieved are stationed at the maximum security compound where some high-profile convicts are allegedly doing their illegal activities.

According to BuCor, the order to relieve the guards came from President Rodrigo Duterte.

“We have a directive coming from the President for a total revamp and to clean up the BuCor. There are allegations of irregularities, so we relieved them,” BuCor spokesperson Wena Fe Dalagan said.

Bantag already said before that he’s planning to put trusted men at the national penitentiary.

Meanwhile, the BuCor chief asked the NCRPO to assist them from cleaning NBP.

The Department of the Interior and Local Government has also deployed around 300 uniformed personnel to help Bantag in cleaning Bilibid.

“Director general Bantag has asked for assistance because he is looking for the personnel he could trust. That is why we decided to extend help by providing him with the initial manpower he wants to secure the NBP, since the location of the NBP (is) within the jurisdiction of NCRPO,” said NCRPO Chief Guillermo Eleazar.

The controversial chief of Bilibid vowed that he would end the illegal activities happening inside the national penitentiary.

He was also seen carrying a machinegun during one of his inspections inside the maximum security compound to protect himself from some high-profile convicts who are plotting against him.
