President Duterte fires all Custom commissioners and heads amid “shabu” issue

President Rodrigo Duterte ordered all Bureau of Customs (BOC) commissioners and department heads to be fired as punishment for letting billions worth of ‘shabu’ slipped through their supervision.

During his speech during the 117th-anniversary celebration of the Philippine Coast Guard in Manila, Duterte did what he promises on how he would punish the corrupt officials especially if it’s about shabu.

“I am ordering the freezing of all, all section, department units of the Bureau of Customs out,” Duterte said

“Out lahat. To the last man, out. The commissioners are out, the department heads, out,” he added.

It’s not yet known what charges would the filed against the fired heads of BOC.

Duterte also ordered Customs Commissioner Isidro Lapeña to the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda) as he was being criticized for letting the narcotics slipped under his leadership.

Lapeña even insisted that the four magnetic lifters found in Cavite did not contain shabu. However, he revoked his statement several days ago, saying that he’s now convinced that there might be narcotics slipped through their watch.

Yesterday, President Rodrigo Duterte also ordered the arrest of the ex-Customs officer Jimmy Guban who’s allegedly involved in the shabu scandal.

“Kaya iyang si Guban pinapa-aresto ko. Sabi ko (So I ordered Guban arrested. I said), right after the session, you arrest him,” Duterte said in a speech in Malacañang on Wednesday.

President told Albayalde that the PNP should arrest Guban immediately and bring him to Cavite.

“Dalhin mo doon sa Cavite, ihulog mo doon sa… siya ang nagpapasok, siya ang nag-fake ng ID” Duterte said.

Guban is now planned to be transferred to the custody of National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) after being detained by the Senate.

He admitted that he’s receiving P10,000 to find the consignee-for-hire that would receive the magnetic lifters where the mutli-billion-pesos worth of shabu were supposedly concealed.

Guban also said that he now leaves his fate to God.
