Senator Manny Pacquiao gave another honor to the Philippines after he defeated Lucas Mathysse via technical knockout to gain the WBA World Welterweight title.
During the post-match interview, the reporter asked Pacquiao if he has something to say to the Duterte and to his Filipino fans.
The new champion didn’t waste the opportunity and started to praise President Duterte, his long-time fan, and political ally.
“Maraming salamat sa mga Pilipino, lalong lalo na sa ating mahal na Pangulo.” Pacquiao said.
“Filipino people, maraming salamat.. we have a good President, Rodrigo Roa Duterte,” he added.
Some audience even chanted “Duterte,” while Pacquiao is delivering his message to the President.
He also thanked the Prime Minister of Malaysia Mahathir Bin Mohamad and the Malaysian government for their support.
When asked if he’s going to set another fight this 2018, Pacquiao said that he wants to focus on his job as a public servant first.
During the match, President Rodrigo Duterte cannot be seen on the camera because he was positioned at the uppermost part of the Arena.
Special Assistant to President Christopher “Bong” Go shared some of the photos of the President who really enjoyed watching the match.
In the photos, it was seen that Presidential son, Sebastian Duterte also watched the fight together with his father.
Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad also watched the fight together with the President, a rare scene that two country leaders watched a boxing match together.

President Rodrigo Duterte also released a statement to congratulate Senator Manny Pacquiao for his new victory.
“I would like to congratulate Senator Manny Pacquiao for giving us pride and bringing the Filipino nation together once more.” Duterte said in his Facebook post.
“You have proven time and again that you are not just a public servant, but one of the greatest boxers of all time. This win will surely cement, yet again, your position and legacy in boxing’s Hall of Fame. May you continue to inspire Filipinos not only in boxing but also in the public service.” he added.
“Daghang salamat, Manny! You are truly the People’s Champ!” he said.
Most Filipinos congratulated Pacquiao for his victory, but some supporters of the opposition didn’t like how Pacquiao mentioned Duterte during the interview.

Well, it just normal that not everybody would celebrate the victory of other people.
